The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Dragon Monotourbillon marries exceptional watchmaking with mythical elegance, offering a timepiece that’s both a technical marvel and a visual spectacle. This exclusive timepiece, limited to only 28 pieces, is an homage to the Lunar New Year, specifically the Year of the Dragon which occurs once every twelve years in the Chinese zodiac. The dragon, a creature symbolizing strength and luck, is intricately and vividly brought to life on the watch, making each piece not just a tool for timekeeping, but a wearable work of art.

The Excalibur Dragon Monotourbillon, with a 42mm case, is crafted from EON-Gold pink gold, a proprietary alloy of Roger Dubuis, known for its long-lasting sheen and hue. The robust brass bezel is treated with a pink gold galvanic process, and the indexes are filled with black Super-LumiNova, enhancing the watch’s legibility and aesthetic appeal.

The dragon motif, a central element of the design, is masterfully created from 27 individual brass pieces. Each piece is meticulously embellished with black lacquer on the sides and a polished pink gold surface on top. The assembly of these pieces on 25 different levels offers a three-dimensional effect, bringing the dragon to life with a sense of volume and dynamism. This design approach not only showcases the brand’s creativity but also its commitment to fine craftsmanship.

Roger Dubuis pairs this artistic mastery with technical prowess in the form of the Monotourbillon Calibre RD512SQ. This movement exemplifies the brand’s innovative spirit, particularly in the realm of tourbillon mechanisms. Since 2008, Roger Dubuis has been a pioneer in using skeletonization as a starting point for their designs. The meticulous process of milling and decoration that goes into reducing the material inside the calibre results in a more intricate and visually stunning movement.

A standout feature of this model is its Flying Tourbillon, a complex mechanism that is only mounted on one side, with no supporting bridge on top. This design not only enhances the watch’s aesthetic but also showcases the brand’s technical expertise. The Flying Tourbillon in the Excalibur Dragon Monotourbillon is composed of 63 components, a testament to the intricate craftsmanship and precision engineering that Roger Dubuis is known for.

Further elevating its technical sophistication, the RD512SQ Calibre includes a lower tourbillon cage made from non-magnetic titanium, which is twice as light as stainless steel, and an upper tourbillon cage crafted from mirror-polished Cobalt Chrome. This composition reduces the weight of the piece by 16% and enhances its resistance to magnetic fields. The calibre also boasts a power reserve of 72 hours when fully wound, ensuring reliability and performance.

The Excalibur Dragon Monotourbillon is fitted with a quick-release black calfskin strap, allowing for swift and effortless interchangeability. This feature adds a practical aspect to the watch, catering to the dynamic lifestyles of its wearers.
