The Speake-Marin Openworked Tourbillon Ultra-Violet is a new rendition that blends classicism with the contemporary art of watchmaking. Unveiled in 2020, Speake-Marin has expanded its One&Two Openworked collection by presenting a striking 60-second flying tourbillon model. The watch is encased in the iconic Piccadilly case, first introduced in 2003 and later refreshed in 2017 by the acclaimed designer Eric Giroud. True to the One&Two series’ ethos, it is offered in 38mm and 42mm sizes.

The case is crafted from high-grade 5 titanium, featuring a mix of brushed and polished finishes that underscore its luxurious quality. Distinctive features include a grooved, flared crown adorned with the topping tool logo and a screw-down exhibition back that allows a glimpse into the watch’s sophisticated mechanics. Both the 38mm and 42mm models have a uniform thickness of 12.35mm and are water-resistant up to 30 meters, blending elegance with everyday functionality.

The watch reveals its intricacies through an openworked, multi-tiered dial protected by sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment. This dial is dramatically transformed by a PVD-coated ultra-violet grid, bringing a touch of futuristic, cosmic-inspired aesthetic. The flying tourbillon at 1:30 is underscored by a topping tool-shaped, rhodium-plated bridge, polished to a mirror finish. At 10 o’clock, the barrel cover proudly bears the “One&Two Openworked – Flying Tourbillon” inscription. A tungsten micro-rotor, located at 5 o’clock, features a concentric circle pattern and adds to the dial’s dynamic appearance.

Functionally, the watch includes a power reserve indicator at 7:30, equipped with a triangular pointer coated in Super-LumiNova for better visibility. This indicator is complemented by light grey and red dots that display the remaining power reserve. Furthermore, a black minute flange with light grey Super-LumiNova indices at five-minute intervals, along with rhodium-plated, luminescent-coated hands, ensure readability in low-light conditions. The components are visually enhanced by the ultra-violet frame against the rhodium-plated and microbeaded black plate, creating a stunning visual contrast.

Powered by the in-house calibre SMA05, developed by Le Cercle Des Horlogers, the watch operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour and boasts a generous 72-hour power reserve. Visible through the sapphire crystal case back, the movement is adorned with traditional decorative techniques such as Côtes de Genève, circular graining, and bevelled edges, which speak to the meticulous craftsmanship inherent in Speake-Marin creations.

The Openworked Tourbillon Ultra-Violet is completed with a black rubber strap, secured with a titanium pin buckle featuring the brand’s logo. This model is extraordinarily exclusive, with only four pieces available in the 38mm size and five in the 42mm size. The pricing begins at CHF 79,500 for the 38mm model and CHF 79,900 for the 42mm model, excluding taxes.
