Panerai Submersible Tourbillon GMT Luna Rossa Experience Edition

At Watches and Wonders 2024, Panerai significantly expanded its Submersible collection in collaboration with the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli sailing race. Since becoming the official sponsor of the Italian Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli sailboat race in 2019, Panerai’s Submersible collection has been known as “the sea spirit of Panerai,” combining bold designs, high-tech materials, and strong water resistance. The latest novelties in the collection, all bearing ‘Luna Rossa’ in their titles, are designed to draw wearers into the world of sailing and exploration.

“Our association with the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team resonates deeply with Panerai’s maritime heritage and our pursuit of boundary-pushing performance. This partnership is a natural extension of our brand’s core values,” CEO Jean-Marc Pontroué has stated in an official press release.

The standout introduction from Panerai at the event is the Submersible Tourbillon GMT Luna Rossa Experience Edition PAM01405. This watch is especially notable as it is the first Submersible in a 45mm size to integrate a tourbillon complication. It also combines the tourbillon with Carbotech material, reflecting the hull composition of the Luna Rossa sailboat. Carbotech is known for being extremely lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and durable under extreme conditions, making it ideal for adventurous usage.

This watch features a tourbillon that completes a horizontal rotation every 30 seconds and operates on a perpendicular balance wheel. The design of the watch dial is intricate, showcasing a skeletonized display with black, white, and red accents. With a power reserve of four days and water resistance up to 300 meters, the Submersible Tourbillon GMT Luna Rossa Experience Edition also includes a day/night indication and a 24-hour GMT function. It is limited to only 20 pieces, making it a rare and sought-after model.

During the Watches and Wonders event, Panerai also highlighted other models within the Luna Rossa range, such as the Submersible Luna Rossa PAM01565 and the Luna Rossa QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech. These models share similar design elements but vary in size, colour, and materials used. The latter model features Ti-Ceramitech material, an innovation from Panerai that took seven years to develop, known for its durability under high pressures and temperatures. This material is used in the 44mm case of the Luna Rossa QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech watches, available with blue or white dials and water resistance up to 50 bar.

In contrast, the Submersible Luna Rossa has a 42mm brushed steel case with a unidirectional rotating steel bezel and is powered by the automatic P.900 movement, Panerai’s slimmest automatic calibre with a three-day power reserve. The Submersible Luna Rossa QuarantaQuattro also utilizes the P.900 calibre but is distinguished by its bidirectional rotation and balance wheel, encased in Ti-Ceramitech.
