When one thinks of celestial wonders, a solar eclipse often comes to mind. This transient alignment of the Sun and the Moon offers onlookers a brief moment of astronomical splendour. Drawing inspiration from this celestial event, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars presents the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection. The Rolls-Royce Ghost, known for its pure design, when combined with the distinctive Black Badge spirit, offers Rolls-Royce’s Bespoke Collective an unparalleled canvas.
The exterior color, named Lyrical Copper, uses a special powdered copper pigment. It shows its true vibrancy when it interacts with light. This colour treatment is complemented by Mandarin inserts below the renowned Pantheon Grille and on the brake callipers. This shade of Mandarin extends to a hand-painted coachline, illustrating the transition from day to darkness during an eclipse.
Inside, the Bespoke Starlight Headliner holds centre stage. When the engine roars to life, an animation mimicking a solar eclipse gets activated. A circle of 940 illuminating ‘stars’ forms the corona, surrounded by 192 more ‘stars’. This presentation mirrors the surreal vision of stars during the daytime, seen only during a total solar eclipse. After seven minutes and 31 seconds, the time it takes for the longest possible total solar eclipse, the constellation of stars is fully restored. This intricate animation underwent a year of meticulous development. On the illuminated fascia, 1,846 laser-etched ‘stars’ represent an eclipse timeline. One designer adjusted each star to create this effect, dedicating over 100 hours to the task.
A specially crafted timepiece resides within the vehicle. This watch houses a brilliant-cut 0.5-carat diamond, echoing the ‘Diamond Ring’ effect observed just moments before and after a solar eclipse. This integration of a gemstone into the clock’s bezel marks a first in Rolls-Royce history. The diamond underwent exhaustive tests, including exposure to extreme temperatures, ensuring its secure placement. The result of over 14 design iterations, this contemporary timepiece stands as a testament to dedication and craftsmanship.
The interiors also pay homage to the 360-degree sunset seen during an eclipse. Bi-coloured seats with over 200,000 individual perforations aim to recreate this unique visual phenomenon. The brighter colour concealed beneath the black shade of the Mandarin leather creates a stunning visual interplay. This design, born from computational tools, underwent seven iterations before reaching its final form.

The collection boasts of illuminated treadplates, coach door-concealed umbrellas with Mandarin piping, and a special indoor motor car cover stamped with the Private Collection’s wordmark. All 25 units of the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection are now in the hands of enthusiasts worldwide. This limited-edition collection stands as a testament to the Bespoke Collective’s mastery and the enduring allure of celestial phenomena.
