White wonders of RM Sotheby’s The White Collection

RM Sotheby's "The White Collection" auction is a unique gathering of rare Porsche models, all wearing brilliant shades of white. Share

Stepping into a world where every hue is calibrated to perfection, RM Sotheby’s lifts the veil on “The White Collection.” This exclusive assortment of Porsches, all draped in factory-issued white, represents a singular vision of automotive passion, with a dedicated collector amassing the vehicles over a decade.

On December 1, 63 motor vehicles will go under the hammer, 56 of which are Porsches. The collection is further embellished by 2 Porsche tractors and a range of other automotive rarities. This auction isn’t just about the cars, though. It celebrates the Porsche legacy, taking place in a meticulously curated venue that resonates with Porsche elegance.

To truly comprehend this collection’s depth, one has to understand the secondary Porsche market said Gord Duff, global head of auctions at RM Sotheby’s, in a statement. “These vehicles, which show high originality and remarkably low mileage, are among the most sought-after Porsche sports cars in the current market.”

Of all the vehicles, the 2015 Porsche 918 ‘Weissach’ Spyder is the pinnacle. This modern hypercar, with a mere 12 miles to its name, boasts a Grand Prix White finish and bespoke features from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur worth over $96,000. It’s expected to bring in a staggering $2,500,000 to $3,000,000.

At the forefront of the sale stands a 2015 Porsche 918 Weissach Spyder, boasting a mere 12 miles. Bathed in Grand Prix White, it’s pegged between $2.5 million and $3 million. Its lavish blue leather interior and a $96,000 customization from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur set it apart. RM Sotheby’s notes its exclusivity—the only 918 Spyder of its kind. It comes complemented with matching leather luggage and a race suit.

Another highlight from The White Collection is the 1993 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.8. Originally from the U.K. in 1996, it resurfaced in 2015, having only covered 43 miles. Valued between $2 million and $2.5 million, its pristine white shell contrasts sharply with its vivid red seats and wheels.

The auction further features two 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 models. One, a Lightweight version, might reach $2 million, while a 1973 Touring variant, added to the collection in 2012, stands to gain up to $1.2 million. From 1994, a Porsche 911 Turbo S X85 “Flat-Nose” emerges. One of the mere 39 made for the U.S. that year, with only 39 miles under its belt, it was snatched up by The White Collection’s enigmatic curator in 2016, with estimates placing it between $1.5 million and $2 million.
