The Tokyo Edition, Ginza opens its doors

This exclusive hotel, designed with Ian Schrager and Kengo Kuma, showcases Japan’s first punch-focused cocktail bar and the largest standard rooms in the district. Share

Edition has recently unveiled The Tokyo Edition, Ginza, marking the brand’s second venture in Tokyo following the success of The Tokyo Edition, Toranomon, which launched three years prior. Created in collaboration with Ian Schrager and renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, this new hotel brings luxury to a previously unexplored corner of the city.

The Tokyo Edition, Ginza, boasts 86 rooms and suites, including a Japanese-modern brasserie and various bar concepts. It features Japan’s only punch-focused cocktail bar and Ginza’s first natural wine bar.

Spanning 14 floors, the hotel’s exterior features vertical gardens and a latticed metal facade. The 86 guestrooms include 10 suites with separate living areas and entry-level rooms, the latter being the largest standard rooms in the district at a minimum of 440 square feet. Each room is adorned with Edition’s signature faux-fur throws and artwork by Sayaka Maruyama and Takay Photography. The Penthouse Suite, located on the 13th floor, offers an open-plan living area, dining space, and a fully equipped pantry kitchen.

The hotel’s Lobby Bar is a striking space with a gold-coloured bar, ivory fabric armchairs, and a statement sofa. It offers coffee from a local roastery, alongside pastries and fresh juices. A sculptural white metal staircase in the lobby leads to the Punch Room, Edition’s bar concept and its first Japanese location.

The Punch Room’s menu, adorned with illustrations by a local artist, offers a Japanese twist on classic 19th-century London punch recipes, using local spirits and ingredients. During the day, it transforms into a venue for Afternoon Tea, featuring tea punches accompanied by a selection of sweets, savouries, and parfaits.

Sophie at Edition, situated on the 14th floor, serves brasserie-inspired dishes using local produce from regional farms. The Roof, located one floor above, is Ginza’s inaugural natural wine bar. It is surrounded by vertical fern gardens and olive trees, providing an intimate green space with stunning cityscape views. The Roof’s menu includes biodynamic champagnes, rare orange wines, and cocktails made with local wines and spirits.
