At Watches & Wonders Geneva 2024, Roger Dubuis’s introduction of the Excalibur Sunrise Double Tourbillon could be defined as a beam of sunshine, literally. A timepiece that encapsulates the vivid beauty of dawn, this watch embodies the energy of the early morning light with its dynamic use of colour and innovative design. Crafted with a blend of radiant gemstones and sophisticated double tourbillon mechanics, the Excalibur Sunrise Double Tourbillon captures the essence of dawn with its dynamic use of colour and light—two defining features of Roger Dubuis’s design ethos.

For over two decades, the tourbillon has been a central element of Roger Dubuis, embodying the brand’s signature craftsmanship and expressive design. The Maison’s first Double Tourbillon, introduced in 2005, featured the Calibre RD01, which linked two tourbillons with a differential—a complex component that counteracts gravitational effects by synchronizing the tourbillons. This innovation marked a significant milestone for Roger Dubuis, emphasizing its continual evolution which is reflected in the making of Excalibur Sunrise Double Tourbillon.

The watch is powered by the RD108SQ, constructed from 319 components, and offers a 72-hour power reserve. It includes two flying tourbillons joined by a differential, showcased within a skeletonized frame that reveals the meticulously decorated surfaces and the pure aesthetics of the movement, all certified by the Poinçon de Genève. This certification guarantees not only the watch’s origin and reliability but also the exceptional quality of craftsmanship, with each component receiving up to 17 different types of hand-applied finishes.

The aesthetic brilliance of this watch is further accentuated by 108 high-quality, baguette-cut gems arranged in a gradient mimicking the morning sky, with 72 on the bezel, 27 on the astral signature, and 9 on the flange. The palette begins with deep red garnets, symbolizing vitality and charisma, transitions through orange spessartite with its bright, mandarin sparkle, and culminates in the vibrant energy of yellow sapphires, encapsulating the joyful hues of dawn.

The Excalibur Sunrise Double Tourbillon’s 45mm case is crafted from 18K pink gold, enhancing the warm, luminous effect of the stones and the overall design. This masterpiece, limited to just eight pieces, embodies the lavish spirit of Roger Dubuis—where bold, radiant, and high-performing timepieces overshadow subtlety.
