In 2024, Cyrus Genève, an independent Swiss brand established in 2010 and operating under the guidance of esteemed master watchmaker Jean-François Mojon from its manufacture in Le Locle, marked a significant moment in horological history. This year the company unveiled the “Etheral” collection—a new line notable for introducing the first-ever round case that will mark a fresh design direction for the Maison.

Embodied in the “Etheral” collection is over six years of meticulous development work, initiated in 2018, culminating in the launch of the ‘Twin Orbital Tourbillon.’ It strives for a balance between innovation and tradition, achieving a design that seems to float and exude lightness, drawing inspiration from both nature and the cosmos to reflect a universal beauty and connection.

The ‘Twin Orbital Tourbillon’ stands as a hallmark of the “Etheral” line, combining exceptional 3D kinematics with sophisticated engineering. This watch features a unique movement, the hand-wound CYR518-E calibre, which includes a dual-barrel system ensuring a 72-hour power reserve. This movement is composed of 510 components, including 63 jewels, and supports three innovative functions that have led to the filing of three patent applications. These functions include a dynamic display where the jumping hours and minutes, alongside two flying tourbillons, maintain a horizontal orientation for optimal readability regardless of the time.

The operational heart of the “Twin Orbital Tourbillon” is displayed through a large dial window that showcases the interplay of mechanical elements, such as the innovative jumping hour indicators on two discs shaped like truncated cones, and the uniquely designed triangular minute hand with a luminescent tip that enhances visibility. The two flying tourbillons, pivotal features of the watch, appear to be suspended in the air, adding to the visual spectacle of the timepiece.

The dial itself plays with contrasts of black, anthracite, and rose gold, enriched with a variety of finishes that highlight its sophisticated design elements. From the black PVD finish on the frame bridge to the micro beaded and chamfered angles of the tourbillon cages that recall the Cyrus logo, each detail is meticulously crafted to ensure a harmonious and balanced appearance, from the anti-reflective sapphire crystal case back. Completing the presentation, the “Etheral Twin Orbital Tourbillon” is paired with a black crocodile leather strap, hand-stitched and secured with a 4N rose gold pin buckle with titanium inserts, harmoniously echoing the case design.

This limited edition masterpiece, restricted to just 18 pieces, appeals to collectors who value the fusion of artistic elegance and scientific precision. The watch’s design includes a case crafted from polished and brushed 4N rose gold with titanium inserts, measuring 44mm in diameter and 16.3mm in thickness. It features an extended lug design and twin crowns—positioned at 3 o’clock for winding and time setting, and at 9 o’clock for rapid time adjustments—that emphasize the watch’s functional and aesthetic coherence.
