Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Sang Bleu King Gold Pavé

The watch showcases Plescia-Buchi's signature style with its stretched, elongated bevelled features and meticulously measured angles. Share

For the third collaboration between Hublot and Maxime Plescia-Buchi, the mastermind behind Sang Bleu, the Spirit of Big Bang collection has been reinterpreted with a distinctive new identity. Just as Plescia-Buchi’s tattoos ingeniously reveal new shapes and perspectives, he channels his creative vision to breathe new life into this iconic Hublot series.

In the world of haute horology, Hublot is renowned for its adventurous approach to design and materials, which is encapsulated in the Spirit of Big Bang Sang Bleu King Gold Pavé. This timepiece is a striking result of the collaboration between the Swiss watchmaker and Maxime Plescia-Buchi, the celebrated tattoo artist behind Sang Bleu.

One of the distinctive hallmarks of this timepiece is its consistency with the original Spirit of Big Bang, while at the same time demonstrating the capacity for innovation. Keeping the essence of the collection, the collaboration has birthed a distinctive, exclusive object that embodies the subtlety of the artistry behind Hublot and Plescia-Buchi’s partnership.

Plescia-Buchi has used his exceptional talent to re-envision the Spirit of Big Bang. The stretched, elongated bevelled features and the meticulously measured angles are immediately identifiable as the Sang Bleu signature. The timepiece adopts the distinctive characteristics of Plescia-Buchi’s tattoos, adapting to the curves, reliefs, and textures of the case while retaining the essence of the collection’s spirit. It’s a philosophy that initially inspired the Spirit of Big Bang series and continues to underpin its design ethos.

At the heart of the timepiece is the HUB4700 caliber, a worthy successor to the revered El Primero caliber. The El Primero was the first integrated automatic winding chronograph, debuting in 1969, and it was also the first mechanical chronograph to feature a 5 Hz frequency, allowing for an accuracy of 1/10th of a second. The HUB4700, preserving the innovative spirit of its predecessor, is a fully skeletonized movement now furnished with a silicon regulating element, ensuring cutting-edge performance, precision, and reliability.

The Spirit of Big Bang Sang Bleu King Gold Pavé also exemplifies Hublot’s skill in blending unexpected materials. Known as the alchemist of precious metals, Hublot has created a unique gold color that offers a warmer shade than the traditional 5N 18K gold. This exclusive King Gold alloy, primarily containing platinum, is ideal for all aspects of polishing and satin finishing. Hublot’s material mastery doesn’t stop there: their timepieces often integrate other unexpected materials such as high-tech ceramic, rubber, and carbon, demonstrating their unceasing quest for material fusion and innovation.

Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Sang Bleu King Gold Pavé

The first Big Bang Sang Bleu, introduced in 2016, showcased Plescia-Buchi’s three-dimensional geometry on its design. The Sang Bleu II, released in 2019, served as a “full body” tattoo, extending the design elements across the case, bezel, crystal, hands, and bracelet. The latest chapter of this collaboration, the Spirit of Big Bang collection, brings forth a newly “tattooed” series, reinventing the watch’s components and capturing the spirit of Hublot’s launch of the Spirit of Big Bang in 2014.
