Introducing the Balancier Convexe S2 by Greubel Forsey: an unexpected marvel in the world of horology. With a fresh and eye-catching design, this piece is emblematic of architectural brilliance and cutting-edge innovation. Coming in two striking editions, the Balancier Convexe S2’s presentation in Dubai marks a turning point in the luxury watch space. Available in grey or blue and encased in a sleek 41.5 mm titanium case, the Balancier Convexe S2 is more than just a timekeeper; it’s an expression of urban complexity. Resembling a city’s skyline, the watch’s detailed structure mirrors a contemporary metropolis, capturing both its skyline and waterfront.

The watch’s famous Convexe profile, introduced in 2019, offers an aesthetic that appeals to collectors worldwide. With its double-curved design, it follows the natural curve of the wrist, while the convex profile at the 12 and 6 o’clock positions creates an illusion of never-ending space. This intriguing shape adds to the allure and creates an exciting canvas for Greubel Forsey’s creativity.

Within the timepiece, there lies a world of artistic mastery. The hour-ring plunges beneath the sapphire crystal, revealing a space filled with the collection’s signature large balance wheel, inclined at 30° and seemingly suspended in time. Its openworked bridge with polished bevelling adds to the charm.

The hands of the watch are elevated, almost touching the glass, enhancing the perception of closeness to time. The design is filled with contrasts, bridges, elevations, reliefs, and vanishing lines, like a city brought to life on your wrist. The grey edition is reminiscent of urban architecture with various shades and finishes. Frosted plates, straight-grained, and mirror-polished surfaces bring to life chromatic variations, with a hint of color for the power reserve, pointing towards the 72-hour precision.

On the other hand, the blue version offers a softer yet contrasting composition. A light-colored mainplate and midnight-blue hour-ring harmonize with luminescent hour-markers and the large balance. The overall aesthetic is both calming and striking. Reshaping the Balancier Convexe S2 to a smaller 41.5 mm required more than just resizing. The whole architecture had to be rethought to maintain coherent proportions, and the movement was refined to adapt to the new environment.

The texts and unique design of the barrel cover blend perfectly into the redesigned case, adding to the dynamic feel of the watch. This ensures a 72-hour chronometric power reserve, with a display that’s flawlessly integrated into the overall harmony of the original timepiece.

Despite its bold aesthetics, the Balancier Convexe S2 is designed for everyday use. The smaller and lighter titanium case allows for easy wear, available with either a textile-style textured rubber strap or a full titanium bracelet. It’s a fine example of how Greubel Forsey is not just preserving the codes but reinventing them. Reflecting Greubel Forsey’s commitment to exclusivity, the Balancier Convexe S2 will be produced in only 88 pieces of each version, starting from 2023.
