Madrid Open
The Madrid Open, sponsored by Mutua Madrileña and so known as Mutua Madrid Open, is a joint men's and women's professional tennis tournament, held in Madrid.
The clay court event is classified as an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 on the Association of Tennis Professionals tour and a Premier Mandatory event on the Women's Tennis Association tour. In the past, the event has also been known as the Madrid Masters, whilst the tournament is traditionally played on a red clay surface.
The Caja Mágica has been presented as the most modern tennis facility in the world. The enclosure hosts annually the Mutua Madrid Open since 2009. Made completely from iron, wood and glass, it was designed by French architect Dominique Perrault. The name Caja Mágica (Magic box) is due to the resemblance of the sports centers with actual boxes, which are dynamic and ever changing.
