Omega Seamaster Diver 300M – James Bond 60th anniversary

Discover OMEGA’s Seamaster Diver 300M in stainless steel, launched to celebrate six decades of 007 on screen. Share

On October 5th 1962, one of cinema’s most iconic characters made his on-screen debut. Since that first instalment, the James Bond franchise has spanned an incredible 60 years. Based on the novels by Ian Fleming, the 25 action-packed films, produced by EON Productions, have laid the foundation for a global cinematic legacy.

Everybody has a favourite. But for OMEGA, there remains a particular fondness for GoldenEye in 1995, which was the first time James Bond wore an OMEGA on his wrist. This mission was the beginning of an innovative and stylish partnership that continues to this day. Just as James Bond has evolved throughout his time on screen, so too have the OMEGA watches he’s worn on his wrist.

Launched in 2022, to celebrate 60 years of James Bond, this 42 mm Seamaster Diver 300M in Canopus Gold has a dial made from natural grey silicon. A nod to the sands of 007’s Caribbean hideaway. Circling the dial is a unidirectional rotating bezel with a paving of shaded green and yellow treated diamonds, with two diamonds at 12 o’clock.

The iconic movie opening sequence, featuring Bond in silhouette and spinning gun barrel, plays out on the caseback, beneath a sapphire decorated with micro-structured metallisation. The “moiré” effect animation is linked to the spinning of the lollipop seconds hand.

Fixing the watch to the wrist is a mesh bracelet and clasp in 18K Canopus gold. Providing the power is OMEGA’s Co-axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8807. A luxury version of the 8806, housed inside the classic Seamaster Diver 300M models.

The watch is presented in a mango tree box with mother-of-pearl marquetry, 60 years of Bond logo and 60’s inspired dots. The use of mango tree references the song Underneath the Mango Tree from Dr. No – the first James Bond movie.

OMEGA has been using the exclusive Canopus Gold, an 18K white gold alloy, since 2015. As well as being 100% noble, it bears all the standard characteristics of other 18K golds, while also distinguishing itself for its high brilliance, whiteness and longevity, making it an ideal material for high-end or diamond set timepieces.

The alloy is named after the bright star Canopus, which is 71 times bigger and 10’000 times brighter than our sun. Due to its brilliance and position, Canopus became an important reference point for many space agencies. Its unique composition includes platinum, rhodium and palladium for colour and stability.

The Seamaster 300, originally released in 1957, was issued to military divers around the world and, in 1967, a famous batch of 2nd generation Seamaster 300s was also delivered to the MoD for issue to certain units and so it is entirely plausible that Commander Bond would have been issued with an OMEGA watch.

Inside this newest edition of the iconic timepiece are the revolutionary components that guarantee the highest standards of performance. From the Co-Axial escapement for long-lasting precision, to the silicon balance spring for superior anti-magnetism, OMEGA has conquered every challenge that matters.
