The Hublot MP-15 Takashi Murakami is a masterpiece of modern watchmaking, blending playful artistry with advanced technology. Foregoing a traditional dial, this model innovatively integrates the case, movement, and dial into a singular, harmonious display. At its heart lies Hublot’s first series-produced central flying tourbillon, a feature marking a departure from the brand’s past creations and celebrating its 40-year legacy of innovation.

Encircling the tourbillon is Takashi Murakami’s signature sapphire flower, comprising 12 meticulously crafted petals. This floral design, characterized by smooth contours and robust volumes, is a testament to Hublot’s commitment to achieving absolute transparency. Every component, from the case and crown to the flange and strap, is crafted from sapphire, ensuring that sunlight doesn’t just shine on this horological artwork but passes through it, enhancing its details and shapes.

The MP-15 is not just visually striking but technically proficient, boasting an impressive 150-hour power reserve. To fully wind the watch, Hublot provides a specially designed, USB-rechargeable stylus. This tool gently rotates the crown 100 times, smoothly winding the dual barrels that drive the tourbillon. The central placement of the tourbillon serves not just a functional purpose but adds a playful element, with Murakami incorporating expressive eyes and a smile into its design.

Unique to this model is the positioning of the hour and minute hands. They are peripheral, skirting the edge of the tourbillon cage, defying traditional watchmaking principles by sharing the central space with the escapement. This arrangement required a co-axial construction, pivoting the cannon pinion and hour wheel around the tourbillon support.

The MP-15’s tourbillon is designed without an upper bridge, and its components are skeletonized. This design choice allows admirers to appreciate the intricate craftsmanship of the gears and tourbillon components, which appear suspended in space.

Despite its innovation, the MP-15 retains essential features for practical use. Twelve white indices on the flange and black-plated hands with white SuperLuminova ensure legibility at any time. The watch is wound and set using a traditional crown at 3 o’clock. With a modest diameter of 42 mm and an integrated rubber strap, the MP-15 is as comfortable as it is remarkable, perfectly marrying Hublot’s dedication to artistry, transparency, and technical excellence.
