Bulgari’s Divas’ Dream Peacock Collection Marquetry exemplifies the intricate art of dial decoration through a fusion of peacock feathers, mother-of-pearl, hardstone marquetry, and diamonds. The collection, originating in 2017, joins Bulgari’s iconic animal motifs. The peacock, a symbol of wealth, protection, and wisdom, is rendered in a variety of stylized forms, echoing the fan-shaped mosaic designs found in the Baths of Caracalla, which have heavily influenced Bulgari’s Divas’ Dream designs. This launch introduces three exquisite pieces, each demonstrating a unique approach to the peacock motif.
The Divas’ Dream Peacock Feather Marquetry features a dial adorned with 12 vibrant, natural peacock feathers. Selected for their colour and texture, these feathers undergo a meticulous inlay process, a technique revived by Bulgari in the 1970s. The process involves steaming each feather to enhance its sheen, followed by precise cutting and assembling into a mosaic composition. This watch requires days of painstaking work to perfect its exquisite dial.
The Divas’ Dream Peacock Mother-of-Pearl Marquetry is a variant that portrays the peacock using mother-of-pearl sections set amid gold borders. The upper part of the dial features engraved white mother-of-pearl with rays and diamond hour markers. The peacock’s tail is crafted from mother-of-pearl elements, painted in shades of blue and intricately cut to fit the recesses on the dial.
Divas’ Dream Peacock Precious Marquetry Jumping Hours and Retrograde Minute is the most opulent of the trio, this timepiece showcases the peacock’s tail crafted from snow-set diamonds, aventurine, and malachite. A year in development, this piece includes the caliber BVL 262 movement, featuring jumping hours and retrograde minutes. The crown is adorned with a tsavorite cabochon, and the peacock’s eye is an emerald. Priced at $117,000, this watch is distinguished by a sapphire dome above the dial, reminiscent of Bulgari’s signature cabochon cut from the 1950s.
