Chanel introduced their new care-free, exotic, breezy collection created to give individuals the same blissful feeling aboard their yacht, escaping the cool winter days. Share

On October 31st Chanel turned heads by releasing its new Cruise Collection 2018/19 in Thailand. There has been a lot of anticipation for the collection ever since Gabriel Chanel released her first Cruise Collection in 1919.

She was not aware of the movement and lasting impact it would have, still present in our time today. Pieces of the collection were made of more comfortable and lighter fabrics and were created with the anticipation to be worn on yachts, resorts, sailboats, and along seaside destinations. Later, in 1983 Karl Lagerfeld recreated the collection taking the inspiration from Gabriel and breathed a new variation into his version of the collection.

His twist embodied the holiday hotspots around the world including Paris, London, Miami and Rome. These remote, luxurious locations anticipated the coming of better days- warmer, carefree days. The sun-kissed silhouettes were displayed on the banks of the Chao Phraya river on this late October evening. Inspired by the motifs of sailor tops, the feather dress was a statement piece of the collection.

The feathers of the dress were dyed in blue and then sewn between transparent vinyl layers. Other pieces were a product of coral sequin embroidery, mirroring the seabed. These were created by the play of transparency and craftsmanship. Many of the pieces were paired with white tights and Mary Jane shoes that were shining and embellished with sequins that glistened in the sunlight.

Well known House ambassador and actress, Penelope Cruz represented the line by embodied the art of the collection, in a shoot photographed by Karl Lagerfeld.

“It’s pure magic what he creates, keeps reinventing, and at the same time you see something that is CHANEL and you recognize it in a second.“ -Penelope Cruz

Presented in a ‘La Pausa’ setting, The Cruise 2018/19 collection, brought together guests and friends of the House Tilda Swinton, Soo Joo Park, Lily‑Rose Depp, Caroline de Maigret, and Gaspard Ulliel. There was a private concert where Pharrell Williams performed during the after party. This gathering showcased embroidered, timeless, intricate pieces of the new collection, embodying the freedom of the sea.
