The Presidents Cup
The Presidents Cup is a prestigious biennial golf tournament that brings together some of the world's top players. Incepted in 1994, the tournament is organized by the PGA Tour, serving as a team match play competition between a team representing the United States and an International Team, representing the rest of the world minus Europe. The format, which differs from the Ryder Cup, was designed to provide a global showcase for golf's best players.
Over four days, 24 golfers compete in various match play formats, including foursomes, four-ball matches, and singles matches. Captains, chosen by the PGA Tour, guide their teams through the competition. Uniquely, there is no purse or prize money, but the PGA Tour contributes to charities nominated by the players, captains, and assistants. The Presidents Cup's spirit of sportsmanship and global goodwill make it a highlight in the golf calendar.
