Château Haut-Brion
Château Haut-Brion is a French wine, rated a Premier Cru Classé (First Growth), produced in Pessac just outside the city of Bordeaux. It differs from the other wines on the list in its geographic location in the north of the wine-growing region of Graves.
Of the five first growths, it is the only wine with the Pessac-Léognan appellation and is in some sense the ancestor of a classification that remains the benchmark to this day.
Designated a Premier Cru in the famous 1855 classification, Château Haut-Brion has an unusual history. The first authentic Bordeaux wine château is located on a terroir used for winegrowing since the first-century Gallo-Roman period.
The first Bordeaux wine named after its terroir rather than its owner, Château Haut-Brion was the world's first luxury brand in 1521. Thanks to its long history as one of Bordeaux's most prestigious wines, the estate has left its mark on the region for centuries.
