In 2023, Panerai heralded the Year of the Radiomir, signifying a notable growth and revitalization of one of its signature collections. Watches and Wonders 2023 provided the stage for the unveiling of these innovations, with new sizes, dials, and complications. Among these exciting developments, the standout is the introduction of the Panerai Radiomir Annual Calendar Platinumtech Experience. This is a first for Panerai in the domain of annual calendars, and it exudes the luxurious elegance that the brand is known for.

Let’s first focus on the aesthetics and construction of this extraordinary piece. The PAM1432 is enshrined in the classic Radiomir design, with a fully polished cushion case that spans 45mm in diameter, echoing the original 3646 model crafted in the 1940s for the Italian Royal Navy.

Panerai Radiomir Annual Calendar Platinumtech Experience

The case is made of Platinumtech, Panerai’s proprietary 950 platinum alloy. This exclusive material stands out from standard platinum by its hardness and scratch resistance. At the same time, it preserves that deep metallic hue synonymous with platinum, adding a touch of regal sophistication. The magic truly resides in the dial. The classic Panerai signature elements are present – the sandwich cutout indices, the rounded 12 and 6 numerals, and the distinct 9 o’clock subdial with a recognizable seconds hand. The PAM1432 offers a red dial, which enhances the sense of luxury and uniqueness.

What sets this apart is the annual calendar feature, communicated with the refined simplicity one would expect from Panerai. A fixed pointer at 3 o’clock, linked to a peripheral rotating ring and cam, indicates the date. This innovative approach keeps the dial free from unnecessary clutter, in line with the brand’s minimalist aesthetic. The dial and hands are treated with Super-LumiNova, an additional nod to Panerai’s lineage of luminous designs.

Panerai Radiomir Annual Calendar Platinumtech Experience

Under the hood, the Panerai Radiomir Annual Calendar Platinumtech™ is powered by the in-house P.9010/AC annual calendar movement. It’s a modification of the existing P.9010 caliber, tailored to accommodate the annual calendar function.

The movement operates at 28,800 vph, equipped with 40 jewels and double mainspring barrels, ensuring an impressive three-day power reserve. Though it doesn’t boast any extreme extravagance, it’s an exciting addition to Panerai’s collection. The P.1090/AC can be admired through sapphire caseback crystals, showcasing the intricacy of its design.
