H. Moser & Cie Endeavour Tourbillon Concept Vantablack

H. Moser & Cie. unveils the Tourbillon Concept Vantablack and Centre Seconds Vantablack models, that blend the warmth of red gold with Vantablack, the world's darkest material. Share

With H. Moser & Cie’s unveiling of the Tourbillon Concept Vantablack and Endeavour Centre Seconds Vantablack models, the company is offering a new visual vocabulary that combine the radiance of red gold and the absolute darkness of Vantablack.

Vantablack is no ordinary black. Developed originally for astrophysical applications, this ultra-black coating is constructed from carbon nanostructures and absorbs 99.965% of light that strikes it. This nearly complete absorption of light renders the substance as perceived absence, creating an optical illusion akin to looking into a black hole. This unique material is also utilized by the military for specific equipment to increase levels of stealth.

The Endeavour Tourbillon Concept Vantablack showcases this visual enigma splendidly. It features a 40 mm diameter case and hands in red gold that starkly contrast with the dial made of Vantablack. This self-winding model is powered by the HMC 804 calibre, notable for its double hairspring produced in-house. The hairsprings counterbalance each other to improve accuracy and reduce the effect of friction, contributing to the model’s pursuit of horological perfection. The one-minute flying tourbillon positioned at 6 o’clock appears as if it is suspended in a void, accentuating the model’s minimalist design devoid of indices or a logo.

On the other hand, the Endeavour Centre Seconds Vantablack adds a surprising twist by including red gold indices to the Vantablack dial. These indices emerge like strokes of light from the absolute blackness. Powered by the self-winding Manufacture calibre HMC 200, the watch has a regulating organ produced by Precision Engineering AG, the sister company of H. Moser & Cie. It guarantees a minimum power reserve of three days and features a large engraved gold oscillating weight.

Both models exemplify H. Moser & Cie.’s knack for balancing elegance, tradition, and high-end technology. Each piece represents a mechanical marvel that showcases the brand’s skill in watchmaking and dial-making. This craftsmanship stands as a testament to the company’s ethos: that true luxury is immediately recognizable without needing a visible logo to prove its value.

The use of Vantablack—the darkest material known—adds another layer of complexity to these timepieces, forcing us to confront the boundaries of perception while challenging traditional watch aesthetics. With the introduction of these models, H. Moser & Cie. is also making a pointed statement about the nature of luxury, emphasising that it is as enigmatic and profound as a dial in Vantablack.
