Arnold & Son, in celebration of the auspicious 2024 Wooden Dragon year in the Chinese calendar, introduces the Luna Magna Red Gold “Year of the Dragon”. This limited edition, comprising just eight pieces, artfully brings together fine watchmaking, miniature sculpture, and gemstone craftsmanship. The timepiece features a stunning encounter between a dragon and the moon, symbolizing calm determination, negotiation, and generosity.

The Luna Magna collection, dedicated to the “Chinese Zodiac”, showcases two versions of this masterpiece. Each version is adorned with a large moon, crafted from red gold (5N) combined with either pietersite or onyx, facing a majestic dragon. The dragon, sculpted and hand-engraved from red gold, coils around the dial and captivates with its detailed scales, claws, whiskers, and horns. The dragon’s attention is fixed on the three-dimensional globe representing the moon, a symbol deeply intertwined with the Chinese calendar and the mythological pearl of wisdom.

The timepiece features a large dial in harmony with the moon’s material, offering a striking visual contrast. The dial displaying hours and minutes is made of white opal, a signature Arnold & Son gemstone. This intricately designed dragon, turning its gaze towards the lunar globe, adds an artistic flair, transforming the watch into an objet d’art. The watch’s strap, lined with red alligator leather, adds a final touch of elegance and pays homage to the Middle Kingdom.

Powering the Luna Magna Red Gold “Year of the Dragon” is the A&S1021 calibre, a manually-wound mechanism meticulously developed and assembled in-house. This calibre offers a remarkable 90-hour power reserve and operates at a frequency of 3 Hz. On the case back, a secondary moon age display allows precise adjustment of the lunar globe, complemented by clear graduations.

Notably, the watch’s lunar mechanism is astronomically accurate, deviating only 24 hours every 122 years from the actual lunar cycle. The moon function is easily adjustable via the crown, showcasing Arnold & Son’s mastery in watchmaking.
