Introducing Jacob & Co Casino Roulette Tourbillon

Casino Tourbillon is a new take on a Jacob & Co. signature complication. This is a fully functional roulette, integrated inside a 44-mm rose gold timepiece, with a flying tourbillon hidden in the back. Casino Tourbillon is designed for chance, hopes for luck and brings supreme exhilaration. Playing with watchmaking classics, doing away with conventions and propriety, this gamesome and sleek roulette watch yet again sets a unique tone in today’s horology.

In the beginning, there was Astronomia Casino. Jacob & Co. fit a fully functional roulette, spinning at high speed, complete with 37 pockets, in a full-blown Astronomia, 47-mm timepiece. Astronomia Casino was many things folded into one spectacular high complication timepiece of vast proportions. So Jacob & Co. designed a new, easier-to-wear interpretation, true to its playfulness and ingenuity. Casino Tourbillon is ripe with the sense of exhilaration and excitement that has become Jacob & Co.’s unique signature.

Caliber JCAM51 is an entirely new creation. The Roulette module rests on a last generation base calibre, with a comfortable and week-end-in-Vegas-proof power reserve of 72 hours. Casino Tourbillon is the first Jacob & Co. timepiece to feature a tourbillon located on the back side of the case. Its carriage ushers in a new Jacob & Co. design as its arms are engraved with the letters spelling “Jacob & Co.” lacquered in the exact same way as the wheelhead.

Casino Tourbillon elevates its signature function to the rank of an actual watchmaking complication. Casino Tourbillon is a genuine Roulette game, a fully random game of chance. The pusher propels the wheelhead, complete with 37 pockets, 1 green, 18 red and 18 black, and a white ceramic ball. Its mechanical construction rests on ball bearings of extremely high quality. The wheelhead spins with high speed and very little friction. Randomization is at its best and makes the Casino Tourbillon a true portable game.

The 44-mm case body is crafted out of thoroughly polished 18K rose gold. The caseband is curved, the bezel steep and the sapphire crystal generously domed. It’s fitted with four full lugs, whose shape initiates the black alligator strap curve. This slims down the Casino Tourbillon profile and makes for a more comfortable and ergonomic fit. Time-setting and winding are both operated with bows placed against the caseback. Casino Tourbillon’s only appendage is the Roulette pusher at 8 o’clock, surrounded by a long, crescent-shaped crown guard.

The hours and minutes dial is made of a single slab of black mirror-polished onyx. The luxurious and sleek glow of this hard stone lends Casino Tourbillon an tuxedo appearance. The black PVD flange contains eight diamond-shaped deflectors, which aim at rising the variance level of the roulette game. The wheeltrack flange is mirror polished, like on an actual roulette. A space large enough for the entire dial and wheeltrack to act as one continuous ensemble, but small enough for the ball to stay down and end up in one of the 37 carved and lacquered pockets.
