Vinotherapy is not a new experience, but the Spa by Caudalie is definitely worth a try. Vinothérapie combines natural active ingredients from the grapevine and grapes with exceptional treatment rituals to provide facial and body treatments that are completely unique. The original Caudalie Spa des Sources was established at the heart of the vines of Château Smith Haut Lafitte in 1999. A 20-minute drive south from Bordeaux, the hotel’s rural exterior is combined with a modern interior, where wine has been made since the 14th century.

An extraordinary collection of contemporary buildings, created from recycled local materials specifically designed to blend in with the estate of Château Smith Haut Lafitte, Les Sources de Caudalie is surrounded by its own vineyards and lake-filled gardens. Expect a wide choice of accommodation, a panoramic cigar bar, a choice of restaurants and a spa offering grape-based therapies.

There is an overarching feeling of peace and tranquillity the minute you arrive at Les Sources de Caudalie. The rooms and suites are styled to reflect the Aquitaine region in colour, paintings and antiques. For a unique experience in the midst of nature, ask of the L’ile aux Oiseaux Suite, a wooden pavillion set on the lake, whose avant garde interior design is refurbished every four years.

Les Sources de Caudalie has some peaceful gardens around the lake with modern sculpture. Enjoy an extensive list of treatments, such as the Cabernet Crush exfoliation, at the Vinothérapie Spa – the birthplace of Caudalie’s world-famous, grape-based beauty products. Then you can taste the French “haute cuisine” in the two Michelin-starred restaurant, La Grand Vigne.

Or if you prefer something more casual, have dinner in the summer terrace of La Table du Lavoir or enjoy wine and tapas-style snacks at the Rouge bar. There is also a range of activities to enjoy at the resort, such as wine tasting and cooking classes, indoor and outdoor pool, a tennis court, a three-hole golf course, biking around the vineyards or visiting the city centre of Bordeaux.
