A heroic modern tower, 277 Fifth Avenue by Rafael Viñoly, New York

In the very heart of NoMad, at the crossroads of Manhattan’s East and West Sides, Uptown and Downtown, internationally acclaimed architect Rafael Viñoly has envisioned a heroic modern tower soaring 55 stories above Fifth Avenue. Share

Renowned for warm, modern spaces that are both sophisticated and relaxed, interior architect Jeffrey Beers has designed acclaimed restaurants and hotels around the world, as well as homes for international tastemakers. Beers brings a gracious and inviting boutique hotel sensibility to 277 Fifth Avenue, as seen in the luxuriously appointed lobby and library, the private dining room, and other amenity spaces.

Manhattan’s most sought-after and centrally located neighborhood, NoMad is an energetic and dynamic location with a global point of view. NoMad is the epicenter of innovation in New York, home to fashionable restaurants and shops, art and cultural venues, health and fitness destinations, and abundant green spaces.

Located just steps from Madison Square Park, 277 Fifth Avenue’s 130 condominium residences offer timeless modern design by one of the world’s leading architects, offering incomparable views and an enviable location in Manhattan’s most sought-after and centrally located neighborhood.

Rafael Viñoly’s design for 277 Fifth Avenue’s new NoMad luxury condominiums embodies the combination of elegant proportions and refined engineering for which he is celebrated internationally. Viñoly designed the tower with columns at the building’s perimeter to keep the interiors free from structural elements that might obstruct views and interrupt the layout of rooms. The perimeter columns establish a rhythm of alternating floor-to-ceiling vertical windows that frame views along multiple exposures and solid walls suitable for displaying art.

One of the tower’s distinguishing architectural elements is a quartet of double-height, open-air loggias seemingly carved out of the building’s corners, spiraling downward around the building from the upper floors. Dramatically scaled and discernible on the skyline, the loggias are, as Viñoly describes them, “an interesting typology of open space and terracing that has not been seriously explored before.”

Jeffrey Beers’ warm, understated interiors complement Rafael Viñoly’s architecture with a refined palette of natural materials—including white oak floors and kitchen cabinets, Italian marble counters, and custom-designed walnut vanities—all exactingly detailed. As Beers himself suggests, the design “brings out the best of the architecture and makes the interiors a softer version of the building’s simplicity and elegance.”
