The collection created by Maria Grazia Chiuri showcased in Paris explored the concept of surrealism whilst using ideological beliefs from feminism to shape the identity of the models. A contrast is created between the black and white checkerboard fabric alongside the extravagant head garment, symbolic of her feminist beliefs. Chiuri believes that fashion was a way for a woman to express her own identity – an idea that runs throughout the collection.

Surrealism speaks about dreams and the unconscious, and often about women’s bodies. It’s very close to fashion. – Maria Grazia Chiuri

Frequent sightings of black eveningwear were able to shed a light on the recent #MeToo campaign, a further relation to Churi’s personal beliefs. Eveningwear plays a significant role in the campaign with the women of Hollywood turning out in the fantasy almost dreamlike gowns, such as the ones featured in this collection. Potentially conveying how fashion can make a statement and advocate for change.
