Round Barbados Sailing Week
Organised by the Barbados Cruising Club in association with Barbados Tourism and Mount Gay Rum, Barbados Sailing Week attracts top class competition year after year. The race around Barbados dates back to the 19th century and is based upon bragging rights for the fastest “Trading Schooner”. This was a prize worth its weight in gold to captains in an era where prices for cargo arriving ahead of rival ships commanded a massive premium.
As well as the opening three-day Coastal Series, which offers spectacular racing along the island’s stunning white-beach coastline, and the concluding Ocean Passage Race from Barbados to Antigua, competitors are also preparing to take on the headline event.
The headlining 60nm Mount Gay Round Barbados Race gives crews a chance to win their skipper’s weight in rum if any of the 20 records are broken.
