Festival dei Due Mondi
The Festival dei Due Mondi (Festival of the Two Worlds) is an annual summer music and opera festival held each June to early July in Spoleto, Italy, since its founding by composer Gian Carlo Menotti in 1958. It features a vast array of concerts, opera, dance, drama, visual arts and roundtable discussions on science.
The stage wings open even before entering its streets, with the majestic scenery of the Rocca Albornoziana and the magnificent sequence of arches on the Ponte delle Torri. In a few hundred meters we find a Roman Theater of the first century BC, the seventeenth-century theater Caio Melisso Spazio, the fourteenth-century complex of San Nicolò and the nineteenth-century Teatro Nuovo, within a refined city harmony that includes Lombard and Gothic churches, medieval cloisters, auditoriums and precious noble palaces and, last but not least, the large stage Piazza del Duomo, with the Basilica built in the twelfth century.
