White Nights Festival
Archived Event
The White Nights Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia is an annual international arts festival during the season of the midnight sun and consists of a series of classical ballet, opera and music events.
Due to St. Petersburg's location near the Arctic Circle, each year between around April 21 and August 21, the skies only reach twilight and never reach complete darkness.
Organised by the Saint Petersburg City Administration, the festival begins in June with the "Stars of the White Nights" at Mariinsky Theatre and ends in early July. However, some performances connected to the festival take place before and after the official dates. Numerous night-time cultural festivals, also called White Nights, have been inspired by the White Nights Festival.
