Sonia Rykiel
Sonia Rykiel was a French fashion designer and writer. She created the Poor Boy Sweater, which was featured on the cover of French Elle magazine. Her knitwear designs and new fashion techniques led her to be dubbed the "Queen of Knits".
May 1968, in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, on Paris' Left Bank, Sonia Rykiel opened her first boutique. It was the era of revolution; slogans, words, dreams and ideals. In declaring a state of permanent happiness, Sonia Rykiel has gone far to the point of convention, to overturn social codes, indeed to burst into laughter, to dazzling the world with her effortless brilliance.
Fifty years later, unstoppably powered by the same rebellious spirit, the Sonia Rykiel House is projecting this heritage into the 21st century under the aegis of Julie Libran's artistic director. One foot in the past, one foot in the future: the best birthday is celebrating the day after tomorrow.
