kurimanzutto
kurimanzutto is an art gallery located in Mexico City and New York City specialized in contemporary art that represents 33 international artists. It was founded in 1999 by Mónica Manzutto and José Kuri as a gallery without a fixed space. Its founders imagined a gallery that could exist nomadically, adapting its form to the spaces needed by specific projects.
In 2006 it occupied a warehouse in the colonia Condesa which served as a project space and workshop. In 2008 it opened its main gallery space in Mexico City in the San Miguel Chapultepec neighborhood and in 2018 it opened a project space in New York City. Although kurimanzutto has a permanent address now, the gallery continues to organize and support exhibitions in diverse cultural spaces.
kurimanzutto is not only a space for viewing and contemplation – they also support criticism and research, welcoming the development of risky projects rarely seen in commercial galleries. kurimanzutto continues to operate in the same spirit as when they first began: focusing on the artists and prioritizing creative innovation above all else.
